The Delmar Loop is home to a critical mass of Black-owned businesses. We have recognized our business owners not only for what they do every day but during Black History Month and by celebrating Juneteenth.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 Crisis has prevented us from having our annual Juneteenth event this year so we are celebrating with a video and sharing perspectives from leadership, business owners and artists who contribute to make The Delmar Loop a great place. The video includes interviews with 26th Ward Alderwoman Shameem Hubbard, Orlando Watson of Prime 55 Restaurant and Lounge, Antwonn Binion of Just Chicken, and Celeste Grayer of the True Trifecta, who is the producer for the Delmar Loop’s Kwanzaa and Juneteenth celebrations and most recently was in the Delmar Loop to paint boarded up windows for business owners. Each of the interviews offers insight as to how Black-owned businesses and artists play an important role and are an integral part of our community but there are many more business owners and we hope you will come to meet them and support them.
Alderwoman Shameem Hubbard, whose ward includes a part of the Delmar Loop, said, “I have celebrated Juneteenth for years but this year is gearing up to be different as we are navigating ourselves through the COVID-19 pandemic and continuing the ongoing and sometimes disadvantageous conversation that BLACK LIVES MATTER what better way to support and engage in the movement than to be intentional about supporting Black-owned businesses in observation of Juneteenth 2020”
