In this exhibition, the work of six artists and six poets is inextricably linked.  Each artist created a triptych and is paired with a poet who has written a poem in response to the triptych.  The form of the triptych also refers to the triangular relationship between artist, poet, and viewer/reader.

If you have questions, please call Sarah at 314-863-5811 or e-mail sarah@stlrac.org.

Join us for the exhibition opening on Friday, March 16  from 5:30 – 7:30pm at The Gallery at the Regional Arts Commission.

Since opening in 2011, Three Kings Public House as been on quite a roll. Last November, the upscale pub was named by The Riverfront Times as the “Best New Bar,” and now they just joined the St. Louis Originals.

The Saint Louis Originals includes three dozen of the area’s top independent restaurants. Its members are culinary innovators committed to uniting the energies of local restaurants and celebrating the food and friendship indigenous to St. Louis neighborhoods. The organization has more than 30,000 Rewards Card members, who enjoy exquisite food at all participating restaurants and earn points for discount purchases in the process.

Mayor Shelley Welsch unveiled the City of University City’s new brand identity – “Neighborhood to the World”—at the city’s Celebration of Diversity event last Saturday. This new identity is the result of a formalized branding process undertaken by the city that included input from residents, businesses and community leaders.’Neighborhood to the World’ captures the true essence of University City because it embodies both pride and diversity in the area.

“While most communities in this area are focused on regional competition, our new brand identity elevates University City to a much higher competitive level,” says Walker. “We have the assets, diversity and progressive mindset to attract investment in our community on a global basis. Regardless of ethnicity or nationality, you will find our community welcoming, a true place to call home. ‘Neighborhood to the World’ is not just a slogan, but an open invitation to both individuals and businesses that are seeking a progressive and eclectic environment in which to live, work or play.”

The new brand identity will begin appearing on city signage and in communications. This is obviously extremely relevant to the entire Loop Business District because it establishes our area as a global player. Look out for many cultural activities to come in the future!

March is Youth Art Month, so in observance we are offering three youth focused demos that are entertaining for all ages, including adults! Join us in store on Friday, March 9 for a Suminagashi Paper Marbling Demo! The word “Suminagashi” translates literally as “spilled ink.” Centuries before the art of marbleizing papers was practiced in Western cultures, Japanese craftsman created patterns by floating ink on the surface of water and transferring it to a sheet of paper. In this demo you will be able to create your own unique print using this same method! A Mise-en-Scene demo will be held on Saturday, March 10. “Mise-en-Scene” (meaning “to place on stage”) is a French expression referring to the physical setting of a stage or performance. The background scenery is designed to help tell a story in a play or on film by creating an environment. Create a small scene of your own using templates or from your imagination! Don’t miss an Impressionistic Marker “Painting” demo on Sunday, March 11! The alcohol based ink in Blick Studio Markers makes them great for paper applications, but for a really unique drawing experience, try them on clear film during this demo. 1) Do you see a profound disconnect between the “consume, consume, consume” message of mainstream economists and the reality of dwindling cheap energy reserves, the destruction of natural landscapes, pollution of the world’s waters and oceans, increased demand for essential resources that grow our food and heaping mountains of waste?

2) Do you want a better understanding of how economics and politics shape environmental policies and ultimately determine if the lake, stream or ocean you swim in is harboring incurable brain parasites, toxic algae, or deadly bacteria and if the food you eat is loaded with chemicals, hormones, and antibiotics?

3) Are you becoming increasingly annoyed with hearing about environmental abuses and find yourself asking, “How can this stupid tragedy be happening?”
If you answered yes to any of the following questions, you understand the urgency……

Each year, Missourians gather at the State Capitol to help educate legislators on the importance of smart environmental policy. From environmentalists, scientists, students and business-owners to hunters, anglers and farmers, this is an important opportunity to share your passion for the environment and have a big impact on environmental policies affecting Missouri.
We’ll set up small group meetings with legislators, train you on the how-to’s, and provide you a delicious local / organic lunch. You’ll have the chance to experience first-hand how policy-making works, and advocate for energy efficiency, regulating coal ash pollution, and stopping a new nuclear power plant.Register early for a rate of only $20 adult/$15 student or pay $25 at the door. Registration includes a light breakfast of coffee/pastries, an organic lunch, a training session, and lobbying materials.http://www.movotesconservation.org/our-legislative-work/conservation-lobby-day/
